Before we get into tonight’s new episode, let me note that prior to it, Discovery is re-airing Sunday’s premiere episode of Dirty Jobs, “Bug Detective,” which had Mike working at Purdue University, examining the bugs that a body tends to attract.

Mike finally got a taste of what it’s like to be a CSI. As those of you who saw the episode can attest, Mike didn’t look like he could stomach that job for very long. He looked ready to quit five minutes in, but he hung in there until the end.

As for tonight, Mike gives up the bugs and looks to another species: horses. In “Horse Tester,” Mike Rowe will be testing athletic horses. Not only will be be conducting blood tests, but he’ll also be checking out their poo, something we all know Mike has a fondness for.

Dirty Jobs airs Tuesday nights at 9pm/8pm Central on Discovery.

In tonight’s all-new episode entitled “Bug Detective,” Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe visits Purdue University’s body farm in hopes of learning more about the dirty job of collecting and processing the bugs that many CSIs use to help determine the time of death.

If this sounds like a terrible job, you’re not the only one. As I saw in some of the preview videos of tonight’s new episode, Mike once again proves he hasn’t quite gotten the hang of the funky smell of death. No matter how many sewers, toilets, or animals he’s come in contact with, they just can’t prepare someone for decomposing flesh.

While watching Food Network, I often wish we had finally perfected smell-o-vision, but Dirty Jobs reminds me to be careful what I wish for. I’m grateful for not having to inhale the smells Mike, Troy, Dave, and the rest of the boys have to.

Dirty Jobs airs tonight at 9pm EST on Discovery, with a new “Nitty Gritty” episode airing at 8pm EST.

I’m curious to learn what you guys thought of the new “Nitty Gritty” version of Dirty Jobs. These repurposed repeats of the show seemed a lot better than what Discovery has done with MythBusters, Whale Wars, and the like.

I wrote my thoughts down in an opinion piece on TV-Reviewed this evening. I recommend checking it out and leaving a comment when you have a chance.

I made quite an ordeal about learning Dirty Jobs was moving to Sunday nights a while back, but things have changed to some extent. What the Discovery showed initially is that no new episodes would air on Tuesday nights. Thankfully, this has been changed in some of the more recent schedule changes I’ve received from Discovery.

It now appears that we will occasionally get new episodes on both Sunday night and Tuesday night.

Here’s what this Sunday’s schedule looks like:

8pm The Nitty Gritty: Beer Processing (Premiere)
9pm Woolen Mill Operator (Premiere)
12am The Nitty Gritty: Beer Processing (Repeat)
1am Woolen Mill Operator (Repeat)

To clarify, the “Nitty Gritty” episodes appear to be old episodes with pop-up information, offering additional details about the scene. This has become a common thing on Discovery’s network of channels with Whale Wars, River Monsters, and MythBusters among those other shows getting this treatment.

Here are some highlights for what the schedule shows for Dirty Jobs over the next couple of weeks.

Tuesday, November 23rd
8pm Woolen Mill Operator (Repeat)
9pm Pinsetter Mechanic (Premiere)
11pm Woolen Mill Operator (Repeat)
12am Pinsetter Mechanic (Repeat)

Sunday, November 28th
8pm The Nitty Gritty: Cranberry Farmer (Premiere)
9pm Bug Detective (Premiere)
11pm The Nitty Gritty: Cranberry Farmer (Repeat)

9pm Custom Meat Processor (Premiere)
11pm Horse Tester (Repeat)
12am Custom Meat Processor (Repeat)

Tuesday, December 14th
9pm Dirty Holiday (Premiere)
12am Dirty Holiday (Repeat)

All times are Eastern Standard Time and the schedule is of course subject to change.

Mike Rowe tries out a new job tonight: Lightning Rod Installer. Admittedly, this would be a lot more exciting if it were a cloudy, stormy day, but with Barsky and the boys up on the roof, there ought to be plenty of risk involved. Lucedale, Mississippi is the locale featured on tonight’s new episode. Mike helps a crew install a lightning rod on a house built to resemble a castle.

Discovery placed four videos on their website to promote the episode. I highly recommend checking them out. In one of them, Mike operates a jack hammer while on top of a ladder. Now there’s something the ladder was intended for. ;)

Dirty Jobs airs tonight at 9pm/8pm Central.

Discovery has an all-new episode of Dirty Jobs on tonight. In Michigan, Mike helps the U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife control the sea lamprey population that is jeopardizing the fishing industry of the Great Lakes. Then at Mandalay Bay Casino Mike makes “meat gel” to feed the fish in the shark reef aquarium.

We have a pair of videos from tonight’s episode. They’re both funny to watch. In then, the guys clean up as Mike and Dave spit in a tank of Sea Lampreys.

Dirty Jobs airs on Discovery Channel Tuesday nights at 9pm Eastern, 8 Central.
