On January 7th, we brought forth the news of a seventh DVD set was being put together by Gaiam, in coordination with Discovery Channel. The 2-disc collection of Dirty Jobs episodes has been delayed for an unspecified reason by one month. You’ll have to wait until May 7th to get the latest round of Mike Rowe’s episodes on DVD.
That being said, you can pre-order the DVDs today and they’ll ship as soon as possible.

When the I-35W Mississippi River bridge (officially known as Bridge 9340) collapsed in 2007, America was shocked to see one of its bridges collapse. It sent shivers down people’s spines and made people question the safety of the bridges they drive over.
The bridge has since been replaced and we’ve largely forgotten just how bad our infrastructure is. Our bridges are but a piece of the infrastructure network we all rely on every day. Let’s not forget the many black- and brown-outs our country sees every summer when our electricity needs spike due to air conditioning use.
On tonight’s new episode of Dirty Jobs, Mike Rowe looks over “America’s Infrastructure Report Card” issued by the American Society of Civil Engineers as he pays tribute to the men and women who fight an uphill battle working to keep the infrastructure from crumbling.

Be sure to tune in to Dirty Jobs as it airs Tuesday nights at 9pm ET on Discovery.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but tonight’s “Rum Distiller” episode will go down as a personal favorite. When the brewery/distillery operators started things off with a joke and subsequently told the Dirty Jobs crew all about the perks of working in beer production, I knew it was going to be a good show. It’s not often that Mike and the whole crew are in a good mood right from the start it seems.
The notion of free beer and rum seemed to put them in a joyous mood. It also put a smile on my face because I knew the crew was having a good time and Mike was going to be less cranky when he had to eventually crawl into one of the stills to clean it out.
After putting two of the crew members through quizzes in recent episodes, it was nice for Mike to be the one being quizzed regarding how beer is made. He got off to a rough start, but once he was reminded of how yeast feed off sugar, he was off and running. He knew the rest of the details involved in the fermentation process.
Mike eventually took over the reigns and was back to being the one who was asking the questions by the time the credits rolled. It has me wondering who inspired the recent addition of the quiz portion of the show. It seems to really slow the pace of the show for a few minutes whenever the segment comes up.

Mike Rowe’s never been shy about getting his hands dirty making a tasty beverage. The Dirty Jobs host has been involved in a few spirit-making jobs, but there’s always something out there to explore, a new cast of characters to interact with, and an opportunity to poke fun at producer Dave Barksy.
On tonight’s new episode, Mike and the boys head to Newport Distillery to help the crew turn molasses into rum. Scouring copper, working with scalding liquid, hauling hoses and lugging molasses cubes are all just part of a hard day’s work.

Tune in to Discovery Channel at 9pm ET for tonight’s new episode, “Rum Distiller.”

While some shows have taken part of December and January off, Dirty Jobs is continuing with new episodes. Some of the recent episodes have contained a fair bit of reflection, but Mike Rowe and the boys seemed to have fun doing it.
This Tuesday, Mike travels to Nebraska to take a shot at paving roads. Then he replies to a mailbag question about his favorite animal and recalls the time he crossed paths with a crossbreed Tiliger in Texas.
I’ve never paved a road before, but I’ve caught glimpses of the guys who do it and I know I’m going to feel bad for Mike after this episode, especially if this episode was filmed during the summer. Paving roads never looks like fun, but I can’t imagine doing it during the heart of the summer when the temperatures soar in most areas of the country.
Be sure to tune in to Discovery on Tuesday, January 4th at 9pm EST for the new episode of Dirty Jobs.

I just wanted to drop by and wish everyone a happy new year. I hope everyone who celebrated last night did so safely and isn’t in too bad of shape this morning.
If you tune in to Discovery Channel today, you can check out an all-day MythBusters marathon. Along with Dirty Jobs, it’s one of my favorite shows.
