Please head on over to Mike’s official site to wish him a happy birthday, folks. It’s a nice time of the year to celebrate one’s birthday. Spring is quickly approaching and temperatures are becoming tolerable across more of the nation. The snow is melting away, making way for lots and lots of mud. Why it sounds like perfect timing to film some Dirty Jobs episodes if you ask me. ;)

Happy Birthday, Mike.

Depending on where you live, you may have noticed warmer temperatures of late. I know I’m enjoying the 50s and lower 60s right now in the midwest. With Spring officially kicking off this Saturday, Discovery has decided to dedicate a day to Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs.

With Dirty Jobs off for a couple of months, Amazon is putting Dirty Jobs‘ DVDs up for a decent sale. At up to 55% off, the “Collection” DVD sets are available for a pretty good price. The first four collections are available for just $9.99 each, while the newest collection is available for $17.49.

If you don’t have any of the first four sets, you can get them in a bundle for just $33.99 which is almost $6 cheaper than if you were to buy the sets individually.

If you’re a fan of other Discovery shows (and who isn’t?), Amazon has other DVDs on sale as well, including those for MythBusters, Deadliest Catch, Man vs Wild, etc.

With President’s Day (a.k.a. Washington’s Birthday) coming up this Monday, Discovery is celebrating it Dirty Jobs style, with an all-day marathon. Mike and the crew will be traveling the country, scraping, scooping, and hauling just about everything you can imagine in this marathon.

After looking at Discovery’s schedule for the day, I like what they’ve got scheduled, except for one episode…

Discovery, where is the “Dirty Presidents” episode? This seems like an obvious episode to choose to air and I’m not sure why this was overlooked. I’m really disappointed.

Discovery’s Black Friday sale isn’t over. They have all sorts of DVDs, toys, and other apparel on sale. Seasons 1-3 are available for about $95 total, plus free shipping if you use the coupon code ‘FREESHIP’ during checkout.

Word just came in that a new collection of Dirty Jobs episodes will be made available this coming January. As you may recall, Image Entertainment has released four collections on DVD, covering dozens of episodes. Collection number five, which is available for pre-order right now, will be coming from a different distribution company due to a change with Discovery.

Discovery has released new information about the next few jobs that Mike Rowe will be involved in.

12 – High-Rise Window Washer | Originally Aired on October 13, 2009
Mike travels to Hawaii and joins the crew of Worldwide Window Cleaning where he harnesses up and hops into a bosun’s chair to clean windows 40 stories above downtown Honolulu.

13 – Toilet Crusher | Originally Aired on October 20, 2009
Mike treks to a creek in Arkansas to perform tests on endangered Alligator Snapping Turtles. Then, he travels to San Francisco where he removes and recycles toilets.

Also, I’m considering live blogging Dirty Jobs. I was curious about what some of you thought of this. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the idea, I’d be posting little updates during the show. It could be a fun way to watch for those of you with computers near the television.

As any regular viewer of Dirty Jobs may have recognized, the jobs Mike takes on don’t merely leave you needing a shower, but many of these are very labor intensive jobs. Mike recently answered a viewer’s question about the kinds of injuries he has had.

As a man with a history of back problems, I feel for Mike when he is under strain, trying to lift heavy objects. Lord knows the man could use another set of hands from now and again.

As for what injuries Mike has had, they pretty much run the gambit from bee stings and back pain to infections and smashed toes. But there was one injury that actually scared Mike and just thinking about it scares me just a bit…

“…the scariest was probably the furnace incident. The heat melted my contacts to my eyes, which alarmed me considerably.” – Mike Rowe

That’s a good lesson for everyone. Stay away from furnaces, kids.

So what is Mike and the crew up to, you may ask? Check out this advertisement Discovery ran during the Labor Day Dirty Jobs marathon for an example of one of the dirty jobs Mike is in store for:

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for the next bunch of new episodes. They debut October 6th on Discovery.
