As I reported two weeks ago, Dirty Jobs is slated to return on Tuesday, December 13th at 9pm EST and we have a couple of clips to serve as a teaser.
In Tuesday’s episode, Mike travels to New Mexico to work as a Fish Squeezer with the Department of Game and Fish. Then he heads to Virginia to practice the ancient art of pet acupuncture on a goat named Lilly.
It’s no secret to Dirty Jobs fans that our beloved Mike Rowe has been a huge advocate for getting kids into skilled labor and changing the way we think of a lot of jobs in this country.
The good folks at the Association for Career and Technical Education have also taken notice and have awarded Mike Rowe their honorable Image Award for his advocacy for CTE and the skilled trades.
I don’t know how much evening news many of you, but over time I’ve stopped watching Brian Williams’ NBC Evening News and have largely switched to ABC World News with Diane Sawyer. Mike Rowe actually provides the introduction to the show. It’s a very strange coincidence.
Anyway, they’ve been doing a lot of stories on the US economy and some of their reporting involved asking a family to go through their entire house and throw out anything that wasn’t made in USA. They were only left with two or three items! Sadly, I’m sure it would be the same in my house. And true of the rest of us.
With Christmas coming up, ABC News’ “Made in America” series of reports is now trying to help that family and their neighbors find Christmas presents that are made in this country. According to ABC, if each of us spends less than $80 of our typical $800 Christmas shopping on things that are Made in USA, we’d create nearly 200,000 jobs.
The series came on at just the right time for me. I actually bought two pairs of socks from a company called Wigwam, which is based in Wisconsin. I didn’t pay anywhere near $80 for the socks, but I haven’t even started shopping for Christmas. The socks were just for myself. Might I add that I’m very happy with them so far.
It got me thinking… have any of you bought anything that was “Made in USA” recently? If so, what was it?
I got my hands on the Discovery’s schedule and it gives us a few clues as to what Mike Rowe will be up to when Dirty Jobs makes its premiere on December 13th at 9pm EST.
Mike travels to New Mexico to work as a Fish Squeezer with the Department of Game and Fish. Then he heads to Virginia to practice the ancient art of pet acupuncture on a goat named Lilly.
On the following episode, Mike’s going to assume the job of paleontologist in the episode, “Fossil Hunter.”
A lot of you have been asking when we’re going to see new episodes. Well, it looks like we’re all getting a Christmas present a couple of weeks early. Discovery is bringing back Dirty Jobs on Tuesday, December 13th at 9pm EST with a brand new season of all-new episodes.
It looks like Discovery changed its schedule for repeats of Dirty Jobs, making my previous post obsolete. We now have an updated schedule which includes a big marathon of episodes for December 4th.

In that December 4th marathon, you’ll also be able to catch Mike Rowe’s episode of Curiosity, “World’s Dirtiest Man” at 8pm and 1am EST. It’s a very interesting and detailed investigation into how dirty a healthy human body really is.
I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I happen to be very fortunate in that all of my family lives within an hour or so of one another.
That’s not true of the Rowe clan. As Peggy Rowe, Mike’s mother, reveals in this funny, insightful article, her sons are scattered all over the country. I highly recommend reading Peggy’s writing.
I’d just like to take a moment to thank all of the veterans who have served our nation. We’re all tremendously grateful for what you and your families have sacrificed.
